The feminist battle to make women appear superior to men in competitions where judgment is subjective continues apace, leading to female “winners” who cannot be taken seriously by anyone other than feminists.

Anna Burns has won the 2018 Man Booker Prize for Fiction. The chances of a woman winning the prize – surely to be named the Woman Booker Prize for Fiction at some point, following a campaign by Caroline Criado Perez OBE – were always very high.

Four of the six books on the shortlist were written by women.

The chair of the judges, and the judges themselves, could hardly have been less representative of modern-day Britain. The chair is a man married to a man. Three of the four judges are women, including Val McDermid, a woman married to a woman. Jacqueline Rose is a feminist academic. The only male judge, Leo Robson, is the lead fiction reviewer for the left-wing New Statesman.
