One consequence of the feminisation of professional workforces is that standards inevitably decline. 50 years ago I was 12, and most teachers were men. These days most teachers are women, and they need the support of teaching assistants (almost invariably women) which teachers mysteriously didn’t need 50+ years ago.

One of the examples Simon Webb cites is from an 11-plus paper from 50 years ago, before the advent of affordable pocket calculators:

An aeroplane flies from Glasgow to London at an average of 220mphm and takes 1 hour and 51 minutes. What distance has it flown, in miles?

From the GCSE Mathematics paper in 2014, for 15/16 year old pupils, who were already allowed to bring calculators into the exams:

Work out one-quarter of 24 kilograms.

The bottom line? Male teachers educated pupils to a higher standard 50+ years ago than female teachers with the support of teaching assistants manage today.

2020 International Conference on Men’s Issues (ICMI20)
Followers of this blog will be aware that ICMI2020 will be a virtual conference on account of Covid-19. Elizabeth Hobson and I are two of the key organizers of the event. We’re using the opportunity of a virtual conference to expand hugely the number of speakers (providers of videos). We plan to publish 120 videos (one per hour, every hour) from midday, Saturday, 14 November, to midday, Thursday, 19 November, 2020 (International Men’s Day), Sydney time (the event was originally going to be held in Sydney). The Guests of Honour include Dr Warren Farrell, Erin Pizzey and ManWomanMyth.

This conference is the first ICMI in which we’re extending an open invitation to those with an interest in gender matters (other than feminists, obviously) to submit material. Details here. Regarding Men weekly men-only video meetings
Yesterday I had the pleasure of hosting the first UK-based men-only video meeting on behalf of Regarding Men (Paul Elam, Professor Janice Fiamengo, Tom Golden). Attendees included men from the UK, United States, Australia and India. It went very well, and I’m looking forward to hosting future meetings. They will be held on Sundays at 14:00, BST or GMT, whichever time zone is operating in the UK at the time. From the Regarding Men website:

Any man or woman with an interest in men’s issues should boycott Gillette products, it need hardly be said, following their anti-male TV adverts. The adverts were conceived and directed by feminists – what could possibly have gone wrong? This leaves a challenge for owners of Gillette products, how should they dispose of them? We recommend this method (video, 14:02) from our Comedy Channel.

So, I hear you cry, “Mike, you’re a leading internet ‘influencer’ for non-feminist men, who would you recommend as manufacturers of shaving-related products and other men’s toiletries, alternatives to Gillette?” For razors and blades (the latter cost £10.00 inc.p&p for four, enough for four weeks) I recommend ShaveKit, trial kit £3.00. They give at least as good a shave as I ever got from Gillette razors. After two or three months of buying blades from them, they sent a free spare razor.

For shaving gel and face washes – how did you think I keep my face as soft as a baby’s bum? – and post-shave balm and anti-perspirant deodorant aerosol, I highly recommend  products from NIVEA MEN. I recently had a problem with a can of their shaving gel, sent a complaint to them online, and just received a £5.00 voucher – three times the cost of the product – which I can redeem at a host of major retailers. What a fine company!

I alternate buying NIVEA MEN face wash with buying L’Oreal Men Expert Pure Charcoal Daily Face Scrub which is the dog’s boll***s. Because I’m worth it.

It hardly got any press but we had the most successful general election of any party. We could only afford to stand in five seats so we stood against five male MPs with allegations of sexual impropriety against them. Four stood down and one lost his seat, so we were 100% successful in our plan. [LAF: The party lost all its deposits, and weren’t remotely instrumental in that “success”. Feminists claiming credit for nothing. Same old, same old…]

 

It’s a different way of doing politics and I’m hugely proud of it. We’ll continue to work on women’s issues. Make no mistake, when this pandemic is over, it’s women who will suffer the most. We want to support them as much as we possibly can. It took the Greens 20 years to get a seat. I have every confidence that we will at some point.
